What We Do
FreeCostCalculator is an independent publisher that creates state-specific cost estimation tools and planning guides for consumers. Our goal is simple: help people get a realistic starting point before they request quotes, compare options, or make a major spending decision.
We build calculators and support pages that estimate typical cost ranges using structured data, location adjustments, and project-specific inputs. We currently cover home improvement, insurance, childcare, and home services, with pricing data for all 50 US states.
When you look up the cost of a new roof in Texas, you get Texas numbers, not a single nationwide figure that ignores the reality of regional labor markets and material costs.
Who We Are
FreeCostCalculator is an independent publisher. We are not a contractor, installer, insurer, broker, or service provider. We do not perform the work described on our pages. Our estimates are for informational and planning purposes only, and actual pricing may vary based on scope, location, provider, and market conditions.

Our Approach
We believe cost information should be free, specific, and honest. Every estimate on this site is generated from a combination of industry cost databases, government labor statistics, and material pricing data. We do not require sign-ups or email addresses to use any calculator.
Our cost models account for regional differences in pricing, local market conditions, and category-specific factors. Each calculator lets you adjust key variables like project scope, coverage level, or service type so you get an estimate that reflects your actual situation, not a one-size-fits-all number.
Editorial Standards
Every calculator on FreeCostCalculator goes through a defined review and maintenance process:
Estimate review
Each cost model is built against multiple data sources. Home improvement calculators use BLS labor statistics, Craftsman National Estimator rates, and Craftsman overhead markup data. Other verticals use category-specific sources like CCAoA survey data (childcare) and industry pricing reports (insurance, home services).
Corrections
When we receive a report of an inaccurate estimate, we investigate within 5 business days. If the data supports a correction, the affected calculator and state pages are updated and the correction is logged publicly on our corrections page.
Audit frequency
All calculators are reviewed on a quarterly basis. Material and labor cost inputs are refreshed at minimum twice per year, with additional updates when significant market shifts occur (e.g., tariff changes, supply disruptions).
Methodology transparency
Our full methodology is published at /methodology and versioned. The current version is 2.0.
Report an Inaccurate Estimate
If you believe any estimate on this site is materially inaccurate, we want to hear from you. Accurate data is the foundation of everything we do, and user reports are one of our most valuable inputs.
To report an issue:
- 1. Email contact@freecostcalculator.com with the subject line "Estimate Correction"
- 2. Include the calculator name, state, and the specific estimate you believe is incorrect
- 3. If possible, include supporting information (e.g., a recent contractor quote, local pricing data)
We review all correction reports and respond within 5 business days.
Limitations and Disclaimer
All estimates are for informational purposes only. Costs can vary significantly based on specifics, local market conditions, time of year, and provider pricing. We always recommend comparing at least three quotes or options from qualified providers before committing to any major spending decision. Our calculators help you know what to expect so you can evaluate those options with more confidence.
We make no warranty regarding the accuracy of any estimate. See our Terms of Service for full details.
